Cove Enterprise Web Dashboard

A tool to help distributed teams

Personal Role: Lead UX/UI Designer, Project Management, User Research

The way we do work is changing, and the Cove Enterprise App was developed to help large enterprise clients track their distributed teams. Select teams can see where their team-mates are, chat with them, and get alerts for a customized list of events, such as when certain team-mates haven't met in-person for a set period of time. The app helps visualize where teams are, track their progress, and helps managers see how the company's real estate is being utilized.

User Studies: Confirming The Scope

Learning from the survey: Two previously under-emphasized features were actually quite popular:

Feature Gap 1: People want to know more about colleagues around them

Proposed Solution: Publicly available Team Profiles that have real-time information about the teams, individuals, and projects

When distributed teams are over 6 people, the day-to-day status of each member becomes increasingly difficult to track for all members of the team. By encouraging a quick status update for each member, visualizing a snapshot of your team becomes both easy and useful. We also made each team's page publicly viewable: Anybody can see information on what each team is working on, their project information, as well as the status of individuals in order to encourage cross-team interactions and improve transparency.

Feature Gap 2: People want more reasons to have in-person meetups.

Proposed Solution: Human-centered infographics, real-time geographic information to see who's nearby, and more robust event features

With our first pilot test in the Washington, D.C. area, we found that many team-mates were working closely (less than .5 miles apart) but not physically together. With the client's own research that in-person collaboration helps with creative phases of projects, visualizing the proximity of your team-mates and push notifications encouraged this behavior while still leaving autonomy in the hands of the employee. We also added a more robust "Events" page where informal meetings such as a Book Club could be posted --previously only official company events were posted and casual events were co-ordinated over email.
